WHAT IS DOM UNDER? - AN UNDERGROUND DISCOVERY

The secrets of Utrecht’s Dom Square have been revealed. The entrance to the underground space where you can view 2,000 years of Dutch history is in the middle of Dom Square. A route under the centuries old square can be followed with a special torch to discover all sorts of archeological finds. History literally springs to life as the torch activates stories and animated films.

DOMunder allows you to experience history from the time the Romans built the castellum Trajectum, around 45 A.D. And why was Utrecht the center of the Netherlands in the middle ages? You can even experience the destructive tornado that caused the nave of the Dom Cathedral to collapse in 1674. DOMunder brings the history buried under the Dom Square to life for all to experience and see, young and old alike.

A visit to DOMunder begins at Domplein 4: here you can purchase tickets and visit ancient cellars.

DOM SQUARE
Dom Square is the perfect starting point for a visit to Utrecht. The Gothic Dom Church and its beautiful Pandhof, the Dom Tower and Utrecht University’s University Hall are all located on Dom Square. There are many cafes and restaurants nearby and tourist information can be had at Tourist Info. The Museum Quarter is a stone’s throw away, as is the shopping area along the Oudegracht.

The Dom square is the historical centre of Utrecht. Both on foot and by public transport the Dom Square is easily accessible.

BY PUBLIC TRANSPORT
The Dom Square is located about 15 minutes on foot from the main railway station in Utrecht. From the station hall, walk through Hoog Catharijne in the direction of the centre and keep to the right into the direction of the Godebaldkwartier. At the foot of the moving staircases, turn left and cross the Catharijnesingel (main road). Walk into the city and after 200 metres, follow the bend to the right (ignore the Mariastraat on your left). This will lead you to the Mariaplaats. Turn left into the Zadelstraat. You now see the Dom Tower in front of you. Walk underneath the Dom Tower and on your lefthand side you see the starting point and ticketdesk of DOMunder at Dom Square 4.

Alternatively, take a Bus to 'Janskerkhof'. Click here for more information.

WALKING ROUTE TO THE DOM SQUARE FROM THE CAR PARK SPRINGWEG
